UNSOLVED: Prologue, Lightkeeper, Detective, Nurseryman
Keep note:
All-knowing, apathetic Gazette wails back a story I’ve come to know.
As thoughtless detective takes my form
“Another day, another ailment, another pain.
Nothin’ but just a means to an end; another unmarked space.”
Nevertheless, I tune in to the headless rag.
The biting summer salt scorches the air;
my chair, even my hair. Cocky, mocking clock mocks my chagrin.
Ruthless Cape Cod lightkeeper looms at noon from within;
“I routinize; I check the log, tend to the light, and observe the fire—fire, my anchor.
Reverie, routine, my retreat—cynicism, sorrow, and dubiety join in a continuous choir.”
Ultimately,
Nurseryman materializes from fog in gardens of my mind
“Tuck me into bed, and fluff my pillows right
Say my prayer—my soul, the Lord’s to keep—as I fall into the specters of reverie.”
I change forms; I take up diversions of fools
However, it’ll never help, of course:
Even after all, She will remain unsolved.
