Writetober 2025, Coven of the Quill: Prompts Wave Five
Hi guys! We've finally reached the end of Coven of the Quill, can you believe it? Anyway, here are four more prompts as usual. Enjoy!
Day 28: Tuesday, October 28: Psychological Horror
A person with claustrophobia discovers an old, brass spyglass. However, when they look through it, the world compresses. Distant objects appear terrifyingly close, large rooms feel like tight boxes, and eventually, the sky looks like the lid of a tiny jar being screwed down. They later realize the spyglass is collapsing their sense of perspective
Day 29: Wednesday, October 29: Psychological Horror
A young adult attends the virtual memorial for their childhood best friend, Lily. The ceremony is generic and sanitized and fails to acknowledge the close bond they shared, a bond Lily's parents always viewed with suspicion. Driven by grief, the protagonist logs into "The Real Book," a secret shared social media account they used to document their true lives. The horror begins when they realize Eliza's parents are also logged in, editing the memories in real time—deleting photos and rewriting meaningful captions with fabrications. The protagonist must now race to save their shared history before their best friend's true self is completely scrubbed from digital existence.
Day 30: Thursday, October 30: Modern Horror
An ultra-luxury apartment building installs a sophisticated new communal air filtration system. Residents soon realize the system is designed to remove not just pollutants but all volatile emotional compounds (e.g stress, aggression, and excitement) from the air, maintaining a state of placid contentment. The residents, now incapable of feeling passion or anger, become perfect and compliant, realizing the sanitized air is slowly turning them into empty, smiling dolls.
Day 31: Friday, October 31, Psychological Horror:
The main character realizes their life is not a sequence of events but a series of interconnected rooms, and they are now standing in the foyer, facing the door labeled "End."
