Writetober 2023, Day 1 | A Home of Skeletons

Once upon a time, there was a village. One day, a young couple moved away to a neighboring city. As they aged, they sought to settle down far away from the busy nightlife. They both agreed to visit their home village, so they could look for a new home. 

While searching, they found a small bungalow. The bungalow was red and had a beautiful garden with more trees than they had ever seen in the city. It had a perfect patio on the top floor and gorgeous wood floors. The couple asked the townspeople if anyone lived there.  The townspeople claimed no one had lived there for over 70 years. But the townspeople warned the couple that the house is haunted. 

Many people warned them, but they took it as superstition. Despite this, the couple bought the home. On their first night in their new home, they felt as if they were being watched. Every night, they would fall asleep to the sounds of floorboards creaking. While renovating the upstairs, they discovered a hidden doorway. 

Curious, they decided to go into the doorway. Horrified, they discovered a large pile of skeletons. The couple didn’t want to leave their dream home, so they tried to ignore it. As night fell, they went to sleep, preparing for the busy morning ahead of them. The next morning, they tried to open the door, but it was locked. They tried the windows; those were locked too. 

As the day crept on, they felt lethargic, as if they were becoming skeletons. The townspeople were concerned upon hearing nothing from the couple. Because of that, the townspeople attempted to search for them. The house was found empty, and the room was gone. Some still say that the couples’ bodies are in the haunted room, skeletonized. Nonetheless, there are a few willing to take their chances with the ill-fated house.
